Reference Range:

Cholinesterase acitvity: 650 - 1450 U/L

Turnaround Time:

Acetyl Cholinesterase (for phenotyping). Investigation of prolonged apnoea post anaesthesia or family studies (scoline sensitivity).

Sample Requirements:

Minimum 2 mL serum

Important Information:

Do not collect sample during scoline apnoea

Cholinesterase activity can be suppressed during pregnancy, in several disease states and following the use of certain drugs (eg promethazine, diphenhydramine, chlorpromazine and benzodiazepeines).
